More concentrated and structured than the regular Gevrey blend, the 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin En Champ offers up a sweet and complex bouquet of plums, raspberries, grilled meats and coniferous forest floor. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, with bright acids, chewy tannin and a succulent core of fruit.

The 2016 Gevrey Chambertin En Champ is clearly a step up in complexity vis-a-vis the Gevrey Villages: more tension, the red fruit augmented by blackberry and a cold stone scent. There is certainly tangible mineralite here, even at this early stage. The palate has a crunchy texture on the entry, just a subtle tang of bitterness and orange peel that interlace the red and black fruit, leading to a very pure and long finish. Beautiful. Don't underestimate this En Champ from Pierre Duroche. Dec 2017, www.robertparker.com
