Score 87/100 · Drink 2008-2016, Robert Parker, Dec 2008

The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa exhibits straightforward red and black currant fruit with a touch of spice in the background, soft tannins, medium body, and an elegant, fresh finish. While technically well-made, it lacks inspiration as well as character. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. Tel. (707) 226-1395

Earth and bright red cherry and pomegranate aromas. Similar flavours plus black olive and tar. Medium-bodied, restrained ripeness and slightly rich, with dusty tannins and tangy acidity. (LM) $28

(includes 5% each cabernet franc and merlot and 2% each malbec and petit verdot) Good ruby-red. Currant, tobacco and smoke on the nose, complicated by licorice, mint and fresh herbs. Supple, moderately ripe flavors of currant, tobacco leaf and black olive; nicely open-knit, sweet wine that should offer considerable early appeal. Finishes with broad, dusty, slightly drying tannins. When I mentioned black olive to winemaker Janssens, she said that to Mondavi that's a sign that the wine is not jammy.
