Vivid red. Fresh, spice-laced red berries and cherry on the perfumed nose. Smooth and fleshy on entry, then tighter in the middle, offering zesty raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a hint of candied rose. Shows very good energy and focus on the clinging finish, with fine-grained tannins adding grip.

The 2012 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard was picked October 6-17 and includes 6% whole-cluster fruit and around 48% new French oak. There is a bit of hubris on the nose with dark berry, cola and boysenberry jam that soars from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with dusty red berry fruit, slightly coarse tannins, but plenty of freshness on the easygoing finish laden with tart red fruits and a dash of spice. It is perhaps missing a little excitement, that frisson that renders good Pinot great.
