The 2005 Côte-Rôtie stands out from the crowd. Pronounced orange tea, dried meat, tobacco, leather, forest floor, bacon fat and dried fruits usher in. A refreshing herbal streak complements the aromatic profile. Velvety tannins caress the medium-bodied palate, dazzling with outstanding density and complexity. Wrapping up with an alluring and faintly saline finish, this is a beauty. (NG)

Jamet’s 2005 Cote Rotie is still tight and backwards, with almost no evolution in its blackberry, bouquet garni, violets and olive-scented bouquet. Medium-bodied, fresh, pure and lively, with bright acidity and notable tannin, give bottles another 3-4 years of bottle age and enjoy over the following decade.

Along with cherry and raspberry laced fruit, the 2005 Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie displays a smoked earth, olive, herb and mineral underpinning. The palate is medium bodied with a light texture, fresh, vibrant acidity and a clean finish. Maybe this will fill in but the wine faded slightly over the evening and came up a tad short in the fruit department. I’d recommend drinking these over the next 5 to 8 years.
