Similarly ruby/plum-hued, the 2017 Syrah Stoney Vine comes from a vineyard in the Rocks region of Walla Walla and was aged 18 months in 30% new barrels. It offers more iodine and wild, funky notes as well as loads of mulled dark fruits, violets, green herbs, and smoked game. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated, and balanced, it's another terrific, exotic, singular wine from this estate. There are 924 cases produced, and it’s going to evolve for over a decade.

Good dark red. Wilder and more savory on the nose than the Les Collines Syrah, but with its game and smoke aromas complemented by fresh dark berries and black olive. Very much a salty Rocks style but with surprising peppery energy to its red fruit, spice and smoked meat flavors. A bit darker in its fruit character than the Les Collines, displaying a smoother texture and subtle sweetness if not quite the perfumed treble notes of the Collines. Finishes slightly edgy if not particularly tannic, with good sneaky length and repeating olive and pepper nuances.
