Very little of this huge vineyard is planted to Zinfandel, but what there is goes to Biale. The 2022 Zinfandel Stagecoach Vineyard has attractive scents of red-skinned yellow-fleshed plums and raspberries, picking up a slightly herbal nuance on the nose. The wine comes across as a bit rustic in the mouth, where it's full-bodied and tannic, edgy and unpolished yet concentrated and characterful on the finish.

Black cherry, lavender, incense, dried herbs licorice, plum and espresso are all wonderfully vivid in the glass. Readers will find a Zinfandel of real pedigree and class. The structural elements are so distinctive.
