Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Scholar's Gate rocks up with expressive notes of blueberry compote, plum preserves and crème de cassis plus hints of violets, dark chocolate and clove oil with a touch of wood smoke. The full-bodied palate delivers bags of black fruit preserves with a chewy texture, going just a tad chary on the finish.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Gravel Series Scholar's Gate is classy and nuanced, with striking vibrancy and tons of character. Like all of these wines, the Scholar's Gate will drink well upon release. Black cherry, spice, menthol and licorice shape a Cabernet Sauvignon with real gravitas and tons of resonance, within the context of the year, of course. It would be nice to see a bit more depth and complexity, but this is 2017.
