Moving to the reds, the 2016 Cabernet Franc Robert's is also from Oakville and checks in as 82% Cabernet Franc and 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, all aged 23 months in 90% new French oak. Rocking notes of chocolate, dark fruits, earth, and high-class oak all give way to a medium to full-bodied, rich, powerful Cabernet Franc that has outstanding purity of fruit. Drink it over the coming decade or so.

The meaty bouquet with charcuterie and black pepper, as well as a distinctive serving of vanilla and underbrush, is really enjoyable. The palate is very concentrated, but it’s well carved out by structured and chewy tannins. Very long on the finish. A wonderful cabernet franc. Drink in 2025.

The 2016 Robert's Cabernet Franc is a massive wine that appears to be recovering from its recent bottling. Power, density and tannin are in abundance in this decidedly intense wine. Cabernet Franc thrives at Oakville Ranch, so I will be curious to revisit this wine in a few months.
