(60% new French oak) Inky purple. Powerful, mineral-accented black and blue fruit preserve, cola, mocha and incense qualities on the hugely perfumed nose; a sexy floral element emerges with air. Fleshy, seamless and alluringly sweet, offering densely packed boysenberry, black currant, spicecake and violet flavors energized by a snap of juicy acidity. The blue fruit note repeats emphatically on the strikingly long, youthfully tannic finish, which shows noteworthy clarity and nervy cut for a wine of such mass.

The 2015 Akasha is a tour de force that I wish every reader could taste. Made from 100% Syrah all from the Torrin’s estate vineyard, its deep purple color is followed by a La Mouline-like bouquet of blue fruits, bacon fat, spring flowers, and forest floor. Possessing extraordinary purity, a wild, exotic, classic Syrah style, sweet tannin, and perfect balance, it’s as good as it gets. It has the purity, balance, and elegance to shine even today, yet won’t hit maturity for another 5-6 years and will keep for another two decades. It’s an incredible, world-class Syrah.
