Medium red. Deep, reticent nose hints at dark raspberry and smoke. Then silkier and more opulent in the mouth than the nose suggests, with rich, palate-coating fruit and a suggestion of dried flowers. Quite full for a Barthod wine: fatter than the 2008 example but less precise. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and very good breadth.

Good bright, dark red. Spicy black raspberry and faded rose on the captivating nose. Rich, broad and sweet, but kept fresh and firm by a strong stony quality. Most impressive today on the back end, which features a chewy impression of extract, pronounced minerality and terrific vibrant length. As tactile as a grand cru.
