Score 89/100 · Drink 1997-2012, Robert Parker, Dec 1997

Stonestreet does exceptionally well with its "big reds," such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and their proprietary red wine called Legacy. The 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon is no shy wine, coming in at 14.2% alcohol. The wine reveals the ripe fruit their Alexander Valley vineyard achieves. The use of heavily toasted Demptos barrels and indigenous yeasts for fermentation give these wines provocative aromatics. The Cabernet Sauvignon is built along the line of the Merlot, offering a hedonistic mouthful of fleshy, rich, briery, dense, berry, smoky, and herb-tinged fruit. Full-bodied, with a lashing of sweet tannin, this lusty, decadently rich, flamboyant Cabernet Sauvignon should drink well for 12-15 years. Tel. (707) 433-9463; Fax (707) 433-9469

Ruby-red. Cassis, black cherry and chocolate aromas are purer than those of the above wine. Juicy, fairly intense dark berry flavor; also slightly rigid, but there plenty of richness here. Finishes with substantial tannins, but also possesses very good buffering fruit.
