Score 88/100 · Drink 2003-2008, Pierre Rovani, Feb 2001

The expressive aromatics of the medium to dark ruby-colored 1998 Premier Cuvee Pinot Noir reveal chocolate-infused, plummy black cherries. This firm, medium-bodied wine's flavor profile is composed of roasted black fruits, cocoa, and hints of cinnamon. At least two years of cellaring will be required to soften this offering's tannic backbone and finish. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2008. Tel. 503-864-4300.

Deep red-ruby. Aromatic, exotic aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, baking chocolate, menthol and oak spices. Thick, rich and deep, with noteworthy extract and palate presence. Harmonious acidity gives shape to the dark fruit flavors. Finishes with firm tannins and a late burst of currant, cherry and chocolate. This is strong for a basic cuvée-an indication of the high quality of the '98 vintage.
