In complete contrast to the 2000 Bone Rock, the 2002 Saxum Bone Rock, a blend of 93% Syrah and 7% Grenache, possesses a youthful, fruit filled personality with decadent, hedonistic dark berry fruits, violets and mineral aromas that are intermixed with touches of tobacco, cigar, and meat. The longer this sat in the glass, the more impressive it became, showing full bodied power and a dense mid-palate, but also a superb, rich texture, awesome balance, and a very long, chocolate laced finish. Still young and vibrant, this is delicious now but should continue to drink well over the next 8 to 10 years, if not longer.
