Vivid ruby-red. Suave, oak-spiced dark berry, cherry-vanilla and floral pastille scents are complicated by suggestions of cola and clove. Juicy and expansive on the palate, offering sweet, oak-spiced blackberry and mocha flavors lifted and braced by gentle acidity. Finishes smooth, subtly spicy and very, displaying dusty, slow-building tannins and echoes of sweet vanilla and blackberry liqueur. On the decadent side, but there's quite good energy and spiciness here to keep things in check.

The 2012 Pinot Noir Winery Hill Vineyard comes from south and west-facing vines, and is matured in 57% new French oak for 16 months. It has more red berry fruit on the nose than the Fleur de Lis - raspberry, crushed strawberry and wilted rose petals all with commendable delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with mulberry, redcurrant, brown spices and a touch of black pepper. I just find the finish needing a little more finesse - it seems a little muscular at the moment, so afford it a couple of more years in bottle.
