The 2015 Carbonnieux Blanc needs more cohesion and intensity on the nose, where scents of Golden Delicious apple and dandelion emerge with time. The palate is balanced and quite malic, displaying well-judged acidity and a touch of bitterness toward the finish. The Sémillon feels quite expressive here, although I am not convinced that this is a long-term proposition. I expected more after such a promising showing in barrel. Bright, crisp and easygoing, the 2015 Carbonnieux Blanc is a solid aperitif-style white for drinking now and over the next few years, while the orchard fruit, citrus and floral notes retain their youthful vibrancy.
The Carbonnieux 2015 Blanc opens with scents of white grapefruit, lemon peel and fresh pears with touches of dill seed, white pepper, musk perfume and crushed rocks. Light to medium-bodied, the palate has a wonderfully racy backbone of refreshing acidity cutting through the intense citrus and mineral flavors, finishing on an herbal note.
About the producer
This estate is one of Bordeaux’s oldest, with vines planted here since at least the 13th century. Over three generations, the Perrin family has completely renovated the estate and raised quality here significantly.
