While the 1983 Château Clos de Sarpe is more focused and chiseled compared to the evolved 1981, it nevertheless has a wonderfully complete, balanced, complex style that builds nicely with time in the glass. The tannins that are present in all these older vintages of Clos de Sarpe are certainly there, but they're sweet and polished, and the wine has no hard edges and just a fabulous texture.

Clos de Sarpe

This small Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé estate is a FINE+RARE favourite. Run by Maylis Marcenat, the fourth generation of her family to do so, the 3.7-hectare vineyard has old vines and limestone soils, producing wines of incredible freshness and great ageability.
