The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is aging very gracefully, offering up notes of dark currants, spice box, cigar tobacco and pencil shavings, followed by a full-bodied, savory palate with good depth and dimension and a firm finish that's still youthful. It's fair to say that this is both more overtly oaky and somewhat less structurally refined than the wines Daniel Daou is making today, but it remains a very impressive wine that's still an adolescent and may well continue to improve.

(75% cabernet sauvignon, 12% cabernet franc, 10% merlot and 3% petit verdot): Inky ruby. Intense aromas and flavors of bitter cherry, cassis, cured tobacco and candied flowers. Taut and spicy, with excellent clarity and structure but no rough edges. A youthful, focused wine that finishes with impressive thrust and resonating spiciness. Definitely give this wine some cellar time.
