The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon El Camino comes from the oldest vines on the estate, and there are a tiny five barrels produced, with 80% being new. Blue fruits, scorched earth, graphite, violets, and leather nuances all define the aromatics, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, layered, seamless mouthfeel, tons of tannins, and a great finish. This ethereal, majestic, layered, First Growth-like Cabernet Sauvignon needs 4-5 years in the cellars and will be a 40- to 50-year wine.

A selection of five barrels (four new) from the estate's oldest vines, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon El Camino is a tight, rather unyielding example of Howell Mountain Cabernet. Pine-accented blueberries and cassis gradually emerge on the nose of this concentrated, tannic offering. It's medium to full-bodied, measuring just over 14.1% alcohol, yet will need at least several years in the cellar to begin to resolve those rich, dusty tannins so evident on the lingering finish.
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon El Camino is fabulous. Deep, vertical and explosive, the 2021 offers up a heady mélange of blackberry jam, bittersweet chocolate, licorice, spice, menthol, cloves and espresso. Beams of muscular, driving tannin wrap it all together. Time in the glass brings out hints of blood orange, pomegranate and spice that add brightness, a welcome counter to the wine’s brooding, virile personality. In 2021, the El Camino is a five-barrel blend, each from key sections of the property. It’s a magnificent wine in every way.
