A blend derived from lieux-dits Les Crays, La Roche and the Clos des Petits Croux, the 2000 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Hauts de Vignes is still decidedly youthful, opening in the glass with a lovely bouquet of waxy lemon rind, smoke, confit citrus and warm bread. Full-bodied, deep and muscular, it's built around chalky structuring extract and an incisive spine of acidity. This must be the least evolved of all Guffens's wines in the 2000 vintage.

The 2000 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Hauts de Vignes has a detailed, mineral-driven bouquet that retains impressive energy considering that this wine is now almost two decades old. The palate is well balanced with a slightly honeyed texture countered by acidity, offering notes of mango, apricot and a pinch of white pepper toward the finish. This is showing very well and will continue to give pleasure for many years.
Blend of La Roche, Les Craies and Les Croux. Creamy on the nose with lots of life, fruit and juice. Quite spicy. And then with real bite and chew. (JR)
