Score 18/20 · Drink 2015-2028, Jancis Robinson MW, Feb 2015

Showing off its coastal-mountain character, the Whistler offers notes of dark rock and cracked pine needles with back notes of red and dark fruit. There is a persistent saline element throughout and deft structural frame. Quite taut while young, the Whistler Vineyard wants air upon opening or time in the cellar. Past vintages and the balanced presentation of this vintage indicate that, as the winemaker put it, this Pinot ‘will outlast people's psychological resolve to age wine’.

The 2013 Pinot Noir Whistler Vineyard is soft and delicate, with lovely veins of acidity that give the wine its sense of drive. Sweet tobacco, cedar, mint, licorice and dark cherries are laced into the subtle, polished finish. Stylistically, the Whistler is a bit fleeting and a touch delicate, but all the elements fall into the right place. Whistler is the westernmost vineyard in Sonoma County.
