10% Merlot. Nicely lifted and rounded with some Sangiovese bite. Attractive sandy texture. Great for the table. (JR)

Panzano – Greve in Chianti. 90% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot. Mid crimson. Savoury nose with hints of beef stock. Concentrated fruit that certainly has length, but is a little subdued on the finish. Firm, well-built tannins. Could do with more age. (WS)

Casaloste's 2016 Chianti Classico is dark, powerful and also deeply expressive. Black cherry, plum, licorice, lavender and spice showcase the darker side of Sangiovese that is so typical of the wines of Panzano. Ample, creamy and full of character, the 2016 hits all the right spots. In a word: terrific.
