Tasting notes
Score 93/100 · Drink 2022-2037, Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous, Aug 2022

The 2012 Viñedo Chadwick is from a warm year in Chile when maximum temperatures were higher than average. This Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto came out concentrated even though it was harvested young before aging for 22 months in 90% new barrels. Garnet red in the glass. The ripe nose presents notes of blackcurrant and dried flowers with hints of dark fruit and cocoa. Relaxed with pleasantly lively, ripe fruit flavors that are given a lift by the freshness toward the end, it grows more profound as it develops. Free-flowing for a ripe red.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon. TA 5.68 g/l, pH 3.49, RS 2.48 g/l. Warmest vintage since 2008 with low yields. The grapes were hand harvested and sorted by hand. Stainless-steel fermentation, three pumpovers per day. Total maceration time ranged from 23–40 days. Aged for 22 months in French oak barrels (90% new). Bright crimson. Very well integrated and sophisticated. Juicy. Even salty. Lots of current and future pleasure here. Slight but not unpleasant inkiness on the end. (JR)

This is a superb red with currant, white truffle, sandalwood and stone. Full body, chewy tannins and a powerful finish. Turns to iodine. Gravel and hints of licorice too. Very, very long. This IS the La Mission Haut Brion of Chile. A phenomenal cabernet sauvignon. Needs at least five years to soften. 800 cases. Wait until 2018.
