Dark ruby. Suave, highly perfumed scents of raspberry liqueur, candied flowers and five-spice powder, along with a bright mineral overtone. Sweet, deeply concentrated red fruit and floral pastille flavors are complicated by a suggestion of Asian spices that builds in the glass. At once powerful and fine-grained, finishing with excellent focus and silky, harmonious tannins.

65-year-old vines. From the Côte du Py. Selection of parcels. Yield: 38 hl/ha with 10,000 plants/ha. Harvested and sorted. 85% whole bunch. Seven-day fermentation. Maceration for 15 to 20 days in barrels (demi-muids). Aged for 17 months. Organic. Mid cherry red. Slightly darker than the Côte du Py and smells richer and riper. There is still an attractive stemmy freshness but the dark blackberry fruit is sweeter and more generous. Terrific freshness and length. Needs food and/or time. (JH)
