Score 91-93/100 · Robert Parker, Oct 2015

From three vineyards in Napa, including the Caldwell Vineyard, To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville and the Chang Vineyard on Pritchard Hill, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Cor Leonis is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and will likely spend 28-29 months in French oak prior to being bottled. This wine shows notes of creosote, incense, blackberry, charcoal, and some floral notes in a rich, full-bodied, authoritative and classic style. It should drink well for at least two decades or more.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Cor Leonis is dark, inky and powerful, with tons of depth and richness. Blue and purplish fruit, mint, spice and new leather are all super-expressive in the glass. Today, the 2013 is a bit raw and not completely formed, but it offers good potential.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Cor Leonis brings together its usual sweetness with the pure, mineral-inflected personality of the year, a pretty appealing combination in my book. Inky blue/blackish fruit, smoke, dark spices and pencil shavings blossom in the glass, shaped by a high percentage of new French oak barrels. Once again, the Cor Leonis is all about textural richness.
