Score 90/100 · Drink 2024-2030, Neal Martin, Nov 2023

The 2015 Saint-Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard 1er Cru (Rouge), poured from magnum, was raised in 10% new oak, according to Olivier Lamy, who poured this wine. It has a lovely, open-knit, raspberry and wild strawberry-tinged bouquet. Impressive delineation. The palate is medium-bodied and fine-boned for its class. Sapid red fruit and a touch of seaweed appear towards the finish, with a pinch of brown spice on the aftertaste. Perfect to drink now. Tasted and The Fine Wine Experience's La Paulée dinner at 1243 Club in Beaune.

The 2015 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard Rouge has a pure blackberry and raspberry coulis-scented bouquet with well-integrated oak, a touch of mint coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, slightly edgy/chalky tannin. There is a conspicuous line of acidity here that imparts a citric freshness and a pleasing angularity towards the pointed finish. Give this a year or two in bottle for the hardness to abrade.
