Good medium red with an orange rim. Dried red fruits and dried rose on the nose, with complicating notes of nuts and baking spices; in a distinctly Tuscan style. Superripe and sweet, but with lively acids giving shape to the redcurrant, plum and nut flavors. At once dense and fresh; in fact, less roasted than the 2002 version. Finishes with dusty tannins and good verve. This bottling includes 10% merlo t; previous vintages were generally a 75/25 blend of sangiovese and cabernet. Incidentally, this wine has always been bottled in 500 ml. format because the first vintage was close to 17% alcohol.

Good deep ruby-red color. Sexy, liqueur-like aromas of maraschino cherry and currant, with a suggestion of dried fruits. Fat, sweet and thick but fresh, with slightly porty flavors and repeating notes of dried fruits. Finishes with sweet tannins and excellent length. I find this fresher than the 2001 version, which shared this wine's superripeness but seemed more oxidative and extreme in character.
