Dry, quite light bodied. Substantial tannins, but very drinkable. Dry, bold – perhaps a bit too flashy and over-exuberant. (RH)

The 2007 La Cueva del Contador is the second wine of Contador with final selection of the bunches based on taste. ML is in barrel and the wine is aged for 12 months in new French oak. Purple-colored, it displays a slightly reticent bouquet of smoke, mineral, Asian spices, violets, black cherry, and blackberry compote. On the palate it is dense, layered, savory, voluminous, and impeccably balanced. This lengthy effort demands 5-7 years of cellaring and will deliver prime time drinking from 2015 to 2032. Importer: Jorge Ordonez, Fine Estates from Spain, Dedham, MA; tel. (781) 461-5767
