Score 94/100 · Drink 2015-2030, Robert Parker, Jun 2015

The more expensive 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve from Oak Knoll (30 months in French oak, and a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot) is even richer, and certainly a slightly bigger wine at 14.8% alcohol compared to its sibling’s 14.1%. It is super-pure, full-bodied, and possibly the finest Cabernet Sauvignon I’ve ever tasted from Trefethen. This is a multidimensional wine, with notes of blackberry and cassis fruit as well as flowers, underlying graphite and asphalt. Pure and beautifully textured, with a seamless integration of acidity, tannin and wood, this is a stunner. Drink it over the next 15 or more years.

Very sweet and floral – and awkward acidity on the finish. Just extract! A bit confected really. Blind guess: valley. Revealed location: valley. (JR)
