A Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine that includes 2% Petit Verdot, the 2013 LPF reveals an unusual and unfortunate nose of boot polish and subtle new leather that's hard to pin down. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, pinched and dilute, lacking in fruit and concentration and concluding with an abrupt, watery finish. I suspect it's in decline.

Deep ruby. Expressive, oak-spiced cherry, black currant and floral pastille aromas are complemented by suggestions of vanilla, roasted coffee and licorice. Sweet, seamless and expansive in the mouth, offering densely packed dark berry, bitter cherry and spicecake flavors and a hint of mocha. Shows excellent focus and powerful thrust on the extremely long, juicy finish, which features repeating spiciness and smooth, slow-building tannins.

The 2013 LPF is another Cabernet Sauvignon dominated cuvée (98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot) that was brought up in new French oak for 27 months. It offers classic notes of blackcurrants, toasted spices and tobacco leaf, full-bodied richness, integrated acidity and a great finish. It's another terrific wine from this estate that has tons to love. This estate was created in 2009 by Santiago Achaval of Argentina’s Achaval-Ferrer. These are first rate wines possessing classic, elegant characters as well as ample fruit.
