The Begali Lorenzo 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva Monte Ca' Bianca is a wine of considerable heft and concentration with full-bodied appeal that comes thanks to the hot and dry conditions of the vintage. It also comes thanks to the unique appassimento process used to make Amarone, a wine made with raisins instead of fresh grapes. With a powerful 16.5% alcohol content, this brawny wine should be paired next to a food of equal intensity like roasts or pork ribs. It ends with softness and a hint of syrupy sweetness. Some 6,500 bottles were made, and the blend is 40% Corvina, 35% Corvinone, 20% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta.

The 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva Monte Cà Bianca is a beast, wafting up with a heady mix of crushed plums and black currants complemented by balsamic spice, dark chocolate and menthol. This is deeply textural, with masses of dark red fruit offset by a bitter twang of cocoa and a core of brisk acidity that maintains energy throughout. The 2017 leaves a lasting concentration and web of fine tannins to linger on, finishing youthfully structured and tense with a flourish of salted licorice that punctuates the wine quite nicely.
