Score 91/100 · Drink 2002-2017, Robert Parker, Aug 2002

The 1999 Fat Boy (169 cases), is a new blend, composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot. It is more closed and structured than the Ode to Picasso, offering a sumptuous nose of melted licorice, smoked herbs, black fruits, tobacco, and a hint of espresso. The wine is rich, sweet, and layered with great fruit and stunning delineation. It should improve in the bottle, and drink well for 12-15 years. It's also a Heady Boy at 15.4% alcohol! (15.4% alcohol; a blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon, 23% merlot, 13% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot) Saturated ruby color. Wild, gamey aromas of roasted berries, licorice, bitter chocolate and smoke, with the brown sugar note that often comes from Radoux barrels. Very rich and dense, but given shape and grip by bright, harmonious acidity. Pure cassis and bitter chocolate flavors offer lovely sweetness. Finishes with firm but fine tannins and excellent persistence.
