Vivid ruby-red. Deep-pitched cherry and blackberry aromas, along with suggestions of mocha, cola and licorice. Sweet, expansive black and blue fruit flavors become firmer and spicier with air and show very good depth and energy. Surprisingly elegant given its heft and power. Closes with sneaky tannins, strong persistence and an echo of candied licorice.

A Grenache, Mataro (Mourvèdre) and Shiraz blend, the medium garnet colored 2013 The Steading has a maturing nose of kirsch, baked raspberries and dried mulberries with an earth, garrigue and leather undercurrent plus a waft of spice box. The full-bodied palate is soft, velvety and open-knit with tons of seductive red berries preserves flavors leading to a long spicy finish.
