The 2021 Marsannay Clos de Jeu has gained some purity and elegance since I tasted it from barrel. Wild strawberry and red cherries, pastille-like in style with commendable transparency. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, fresh and vibrant with a sorbet-fresh, molasses-tinged finish. There is something a bit…playful about this Marsannay, and it will be intriguing to see age.

Notes of cherries, raspberries and peonies preface the 2021 Marsannay Clos de Jeu, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and succulent wine framed by powdery tannins. It's more than usually charming out of the gates but still has the substance to age well.

The 2021 Marsannay Clos de Jeu is showier than some of Roty's cuvées from the appellation, more high-toned. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. The oak is more prominent towards the finish with a toasty, pain grillé aftertaste. Not bad, but needs a little more finesse overall.
