The 2021 Chambertin Grand Cru is aged in used barrels and then 30% in Wineglobes. This has a little reduction on the nose; touches of white pepper and sous-bois unfurl nicely with each swirl of the glass, though I discern more energy on the Mazoyères at the moment. The palate is very harmonious with sappy red fruit, white pepper and light blood orange notes. Vibrant and energetic, this has a very poised but quite penetrating finish. Excellent, but it needs 3-5 years in bottle.

Cask sample. Mid-deep ruby. Very fine, elegant fruit. Dark-red cherries and spice with a slightly savoury, gamey note. Finesse, elegance, slim and svelte. It’s all very clean, toned and long, although the power of Chambertin is not as present as last year … inevitably. (MH)
