Score 18/20 · Drink 2008-2018, Jancis Robinson MW, Nov 2004

Mid green gold. Broad, round in style without quite the clarity of fruit of some others. Just a little bit obvious but open and certainly impressively of grand cru weight. It seems churlish to complain that the wine is too easy to like, but I would argue that at this price, a wine should express just a bit more essence of Montrachet rather than being a well made, supple, full-bodied white burgundy. The outstanding 1999 Montrachet reveals toasty pears, apple, and minerals in its nuanced aromas. Medium-bodied and complex, this is a rich, deep, dense, and intense wine. Plump waves of white fruits, spices (including cinnamon and nutmeg), as well as honey-coated minerals can be found throughout this gem's personality as well as in its admirably long, pure, and smooth finish. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2012. Imported by William Deutsch and Sons, White Plains, NY; Tel. (914) 251-9463.
