A pure expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, the Montepeloso 2022 Gabbro takes a soft hand to the grape, allowing detailed nuances of bright cherry, spice and rosemary to appear with pretty intensity. This wine reveals a very graceful side that defies the vintage and the variety to an extent. It certainly defies the full-bodied approach you might expect of the sun-drenched Tuscan Coast. This is a limited release of 2,900 bottles.

The 2022 Gabbro, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, is fabulous. In fact, it’s one of the finest versions of this wine I have tasted. More than anything, the 2022 suggests that the Tuscan Coast can produce wines of elegance and polish, even in torridly warm years, and even in its warmest micro-climates, if desired. Blue/black fruit, leather, lavender, espresso and dried herbs abound. The 2022 is beautiful today. I expect it will be even better in a few years’ time. It's an eye-opening wine, to be sure.
