I was immensely impressed by the 2016 Santenay 1er Cru Les Gravières in barrel and just after bottling, and I was not disappointed when I revisited it several years later. Unfurling in the glass with scents of green apple, white flowers, praline and toasted almonds, it's medium to full-bodied, taut and incisive, with superb concentration and a long, electric finish. There's an energy and intensity to all Vincent's 2016 whites that really sets them apart from the pack in this challenging vintage.

The 2016 Santenay 1er Cru Gravières is showing superbly from bottle, bursting with complex notes of licorice, dark chocolate, wild berries and plums. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, velvety and nicely complete, with superb depth at the core, integrated tannins and a long, mineral finish. Simply superb Santenay.
