1935 Kopke Colheita

Kopke founded 1658. 1935 was a  good vintage year. Has good natural acidity. Blend of Malvasia Fina, Gouveio, Rabigato, Côdega de Larinho, Viosinho. RS 45 g/l. Drier tasting than I expected given the level of residual sugar. Unusual to do a white colheita. Golden caramel colour. Smoky citrus, orange peel and almost a little floral as it opens up. Acidity is more noticeable but the sweetness still shows. Simpler than the Kopke older red colheitas but the aroma is more complex than the palate. And it finishes drier than it started. Fascinating wine. (JH)
