A blend of 46% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre, 18% Tempranillo, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Grenache, and 4% Zinfandel, the 2022 Estate Blend reveals mulled red and black fruits, spice box, Provençal herbs, and pepper, with hints of leather. It's medium to full-bodied, rich, and powerful, with a layered mouthfeel that picks up plenty of tannins on the finish. Aged 18 months in French oak barrels and puncheons (35% new), it reminds me of a great Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Drink 2025-2035. Winemaker Jordan Fiorentini continues to keep Epoch Estate at the top of the hierarchy in Paso Robles. She makes a bevy of wines, all of which are from their estate Paderewski, Catapult, and York Mountain vineyards. While the 2022s clearly rank with the top wines of the vintage, I think her 2023s might be even better. Readers can’t go wrong with any of these, and Jordan’s wines always shine for their purity, vibrancy, and balance while staying true to Paso Robles with ripe, sexy levels of fruit.

The 2022 Estate Blend is youthfully coy, slowly evolving with a darkly floral bouquet of dusty violet and lavender that develops into peppery wild berries and nuances of rosemary. Silken in feel, the palate is seamlessly layered with mineral-infused red and black fruits that add form toward the close. Inner florals build through the finish over a gentle tug of sweet tannins, as this wine closes with exceptional length and is beautifully balanced.
