The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets is beautiful, bursting from the glass with scents of rose petals, peonies, blood orange and spices mingled with sweet red berries and plums. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and sensual, with melting tannins, lively acids and a seamless, elegant profile, it's exquisitely balanced at around 13% alcohol.

The 2020 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru contains around 50% whole bunch fruit, slightly higher than Glantenay’s other cuvées. It has a wonderful bouquet, very pure and focused with ebullient black cherry and cassis fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet core of slightly figgy fruit, a little chewy, the finish maybe just missing the delineated that the bouquet exudes. Still, I appreciate the marine-influenced/seaweed tinged finish. Let’s see how this matures in bottle.
