Real intensity of flavour. No obvious oak but great depth and sleek texture with acacia honey and stewed-apple flavour. Great balance. Already broachable but it will certainly become more welcoming and nuanced. (JR)

The “entry-level” (if you can call it that – it seems a bit derogatory for wine this good) 2019 Remus is a blend of around 20 parcels in the Montlouis appellation. It’s a tightly focused wine offering pear and sweet apple fruit, a hint of white flowers thanks to the wild ferment, and vanilla-doughnut notes suggestive of some old oak. While it’s round and gently creamy in texture, it offers real precision from glass to gullet, the mouthwatering acidity gushing like a waterfall on the finish, and a fine, slightly chalky texture remaining on the mid-length finish.
