Score 93/100 · Drink 2013-2020, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2013

Gravner's 2003 Rosso Breg, 100% Pignolo is dark and brooding to the core. Black cherries, plums, smoke, tobacco and spices burst from the glass in this powerful, intense Friulian red. For the year, the Rosso Breg has maintained terrific freshness, while the tannins are also remarkably polished, especially for Pignolo. At ten years of age, the 2003 is just beginning to show the early signs of tertiary complexity. There is plenty to admire in this deep, structured Rosso .

About the producer

Square Gravner
Josko Gravner

Along with the likes of Radikon, Joško Gravner – whose vines straddle the Italian-Slovenian border – is a leading light of the natural-wine movement. His skin-contact Ribolla Gialla has inspired many imitators, while the rare Pignolo is prized by those in the know.
