Score 86-88/100 · Drink 2026-2031, Neal Martin, Vinous, Jan 2026

The 2024 Pernand-Vergelesses Clos de la Croix de Pierre comes from a later-ripening lieu-dit and, according to Frédéric Barnier, had a lot of small berries. It was quite reductive on the nose when tasted from a sample taken from foudre. The palate is quite powerful with good depth, lower in acidity than the Combottes and as such feels weighty but does not deliver the same nervosité on the finish.

Glowing mid lemon yellow. There is impressive density here, with the chiselled backbone I associate with this location, which is actually En Caradeux, a mix of village and 1er Cru fruit.

Cask sample. Mid lemon. Apple, lemon and a touch of peach on the nose. Fuller and broader than the Santenay Clos de Malte. Moderately high, fresh acidity. A breath of vanilla and oak spice. Just a touch of bitter interest on the finish but good. Clean with transparent freshness. (MH)
