The 2010 Series C was a “textbook” season according to the winemaker. A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec, aged for 22 months in 90% French oak, it has a succinct, intense, blackberry and cassis nose with a subtle note of seaweed developing below the surface. The palate is very well balanced. There is such good density to this Vilafonte, allied with a symmetry that I do not think had been realised up until this point. There is a dash of white pepper toward the finish and very long finish. You could actually drink this now, though I would prefer to leave this for another 5 to 6 years.

Lively, sinewy nose and manages to handle its alcohol pretty well though there is a suggestion of malted milk and it’s pretty tough and chewy on the end. A bit hot on the end. (JR)
