This dry-farmed site on the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas was harvested September 7, before the full effects of the heat wave could be felt. As a result, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard shows ample freshness on the nose, with scents of cherries and blueberries framed by subtle pencil-shaving notes. It's medium to full-bodied, nicely balanced and concentrated, with silky tannins and just a hint of blackberries on the lingering finish. Of the three French oak barrels that went into this bottling, one was new.

Di Costanzo picked the 2022 Chardonnay Di Co Deering Vineyards on August 16 (for reference, the 2023 was picked a month later). Two of three barrels used in 2022 were new, but there's only a hint of toasted almond on the nose alongside lovely aromas of lemon-lime custard and white peach. It's medium to full-bodied, plump, juicy and succulent yet still juicy and fresh, with a long, mouthwatering finish.
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard is the crown jewel in this range from Di Costanzo. Dark, sumptuous and layered, the 2022 possesses notable depth and plenty of structure. Like all the 2022s here, the Montecillo is a bit more approachable than most vintages, which is not a bad thing at all. With a gorgeous mid-palate and a striking, resonant finish, the Montecillo is terrific.
