Score 97/100 · Drink 2025-2035, Jeb Dunnuck, Aug 2025

Based on 50% Petite Sirah, 28% Grenache, and 22% Mourvèdre, the 2022 Ingenuity is a richly textured, opulent beauty. Black fruits, smoke, crushed stone, and hints of Provençal herbs emerge in a full-bodied, plush, layered, perfectly balanced package. Aged 18 months in French mid-sized oak barrels and puncheons (39% new), this is stunning stuff. Drink 2025-2035. Winemaker Jordan Fiorentini continues to keep Epoch Estate at the top of the hierarchy in Paso Robles. She makes a bevy of wines, all of which are from their estate Paderewski, Catapult, and York Mountain vineyards. While the 2022s clearly rank with the top wines of the vintage, I think her 2023s might be even better. Readers can’t go wrong with any of these, and Jordan’s wines always shine for their purity, vibrancy, and balance while staying true to Paso Robles with ripe, sexy levels of fruit.

The 2022 Ingenuity slowly opens with a rich blend of crushed raspberries and dusty rose, lifted by a hint of camphor and spice. On the palate, it envelops with masses of ripe red and black fruits, weighty and velvety in feel yet supported by a core of brisk acidity. The finish leaves the palate saturated in chewy concentration and a web of fine tannins as nuances of tart blackberry and citrus fade slowly.
