Coming from a great vintage, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is a terrific effort, and I suspect it will be a great value. Ripe currants, cassis, spicy oak, and chocolate notes define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a pure, layered mouthfeel, sweet yet present tannins, and a great finish. It reminds me a little of the 2016. Drink bottles over the coming decade.

Matured 19 months in 27% new French oak, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% each Malbec, Petit Verdot and Tanner and 1% each Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petite Sirah. It kicks off with plenty of ripe cherries and vanilla on the nose, while the palate is medium to full-bodied, supple, soft and easy, then adds slightly wooly tannins and subtle cassis notes on the finish.

Stags' Leap Winery

Often confused with Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Stags’ Leap Winery is another Stags Leap District estate. With a long history, its Petite Sirah has cult status among aficionados, although – like most Napa estates – it produces a range of Cabernet Sauvignon wines.
