The 2022 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione (name TBD), from vineyards in Lamole, is another new wine from Istine. It offers a striking mix of Lamole energy married to the natural intensity of a warm, very dry year. Red-toned fruit, blood orange, herbs, rose petal and pomegranate are all finely sketched. This should be terrific once in bottle.

The 2022 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna Istine is the most reticent of these three Gran Seleziones. Even so, the Vigna Istine impresses with its notable energy and tension. Dark red fruit, white pepper, chalk, mint and dried flowers open in the glass. Today, the Istine feels rather compact and nervy, but it certainly has a ton of character.
