Score 88-90/100 · Drink 2030-2045, Neal Martin, May 2026

The 2025 La Gurgue was cropped at 22 hl/ha and matured in a combination of amphora, demi-muids and 15% new oak. It has a tightly wound nose, fresh and crisp, blackberry with a touch of black olives. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, powdery in texture, graphite-infused black fruit and an off-dry finish. Give this two or three years in bottle.

A crunchy and savory red with blackberry, black cherry and dark mushroom aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with juicy tannins and a fresh and forest-like aftertaste. A blend of 55% cabernet sauvignon, 36% merlot, and 9% petit verdot. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification.

The 2025 La Gurgue is wonderfully fresh and vibrant in the glass. Crushed raspberry, blood orange, chalk and slate are pushed forward. The 2025 is juicy and supple but offers a great deal of energy and tension. It’s a style I personally find quite appealing. All this needs is time to come together.
