The 2025 Rol Valentin has a ripe black cherry and blueberry-scented nose that needs a little more delineation and terroir expression. It feels a little predictable. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet-and-sour entry, a little herbaceous underneath the ripe fruit, which leaves it feeling a bit superficial on the finish. Tasted twice with consistent notes.

Red plums, framboise, spring flowers, and a beautiful sense of minerality all emerge from the 2025 Château Rol Valentin, a pretty, nuanced, complex Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé based on 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Malbec from clay and limestone soils. It's medium-bodied on the palate, with a pretty, moderately concentrated mouthfeel and fine tannins. It shines for its complexity and balance and should drink well right out of the gate.
Aromas of currants, berries and hints of stems and fresh herbs follow through to a medium to full body, crunchy fruit and a bright finish. Pretty fine tannins. Shows improvement.
The 2025 Rol Valentin is quite floral and perfumed, perhaps because of a touch of Malbec in the blend. Crushed flowers, red-toned fruit, dried herbs and a kick of orange peel confer brightness. This mid-weight Saint-Émilion is impeccably done. Tasted two times.
